Another Steam Sale, another trickle out of my bank account

As I was never a hardcore gamer for the first 17 years of my life, purchasing games for a full-fleged console or ricer PC was never something I would do. I did get the occasional Roller Coaster Tycoon or racing type game but those got old after a few months. Steam was something that I was a bit suspicious at first but eased up to the idea of not needing a box and physical media to actually “own” a game.

I’m always told that you should never buy something on Steam at full price, because the likelihood that it would go on sale would be pretty close to 1. Especially Duke Nukem Forever, which happened to get the 50% off treatment it deserved  (and according to everyone’s experiences that may not have been enough). I think there’s some funny guys over at Valve who pay attention to little things like these and troll the crap out of everyone by releasing mid-week sales of titles that are otherwise bought pretty often.

Regardless of the superstitions, the Steam service had a 1.5-week long Summer sale which plenty of deals were to be had. For me, my first real splurge was the sale just last winter where I happened to be content that I spent 1/6 of what my games were worth. I’m a very frugal person and didn’t really plan to spend more than $25 this time around.

My list of games:

  • Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West - $1.50
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - $2.49
  • Just Cause 2 - $4.99
  • Company of Heroes (original only) - $2.49
  • Audiosurf - $1.49

Total: $12.96

And shut up about raffle tickets. I didn’t care about no stupid ass potatoes last time, so I’m not gonna care about it again.
